Some Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) patients have scoliosis running in the family, but many don't. I am the only person in my extended family diagnosed with scoliosis, so I want to know the odds that my future children might have scoliosis.
Researchers often believe that AIS can be due to a spectrum of genetic risk variants, ranging from very rare or even private to very common.
I searched the internet, but most scoliosis heritability studies were twin based, which is not a good predictor for my case as I don't have a family history.
So I researched using genome-wide association studies (GWAS), and I hoped it would predict the odds better for patients without a family history. Please see the abstract of my research at https://www.bentnotbroken.net/heritability, and hopefully, you find it useful.
Carolyn, you did a very interesting research. Thanks for sharing!
Good job! Those graphs look good.
